Mold
and Mildew
Mold and Mildew are the same
thing. The
distinction is that mildew is used to refer to mold that is breaking
down textiles or cloth. Mold is used to refer to just about everything
else from wood to fruit.
Mold and Mildew both work the same way. Their spores land on something
and are supplied with food and moisture. They keep multiplying and
releasing more spores in the air. These spores keep doing the same
thing over and over.
If you are having a mildew problem, then find the source of moisture
and cut it off. Maybe all you need is a de-humidifier. If you have a
mold problem, again cut off the source of moisture and the mold can not
grow. It won't die though.
Mold and mildew without moisture will just exist in a dormant state
like most plants. Think about your grass in the winter. It doesn't die,
it goes dormant and when the sun and rain return in enough force it
gets green and grows again. It's the same with mold.
Mold and mildew that is persistent and keeps coming back to haunt you
is of some concern. The main reason is that mold and mildew infestation
slowly but surely break down your body's immune system. Once your
immune system is weakened other diseases can easily set in. So take
care of mold and mildew problems immediately. I suggest my book, "How
